Mt. Etna is a grand destination for tourists from around the world, such a unique experience on one of the worlds most interesting volcanoes.
Etna Bed and Breakfast offers you an ideal location for your vacation as we are distanced 15km from the volcano and at the same time 15km from Catania city beaches.
Mount Etna is Europe's largest volcano (350 km3), and one of the most active volcanoes on Earth, with frequent periods of intermittent to persistent activity in the summit area and major eruptions from eruptive centers on its flanks every 2-20 years.
The main feature of Etnean activity is voluminous lava emission, but strong explosive activity occurs occasionally, mostly from its presently four summit craters.
Etna is particular for a number of reasons.First, it has the longest record of historical eruptions among all volcanoes on this planet, its first historically documented eruption occurring at about 1500 BC.
The total number of eruptions is 209 eruptions through late 1993.To these, there have now to be added the spectacular and vigorous summit eruptions of 1995-2001, the flank eruption of July-August 2001, and the vigorous ash emissions initiated in late March 2002.
Etna lies in an area that is still not well understood from a geological standpoint. While some scientists relate, in a broader sense, the Etnean volcanism to subduction of the Ionian oceanic seafloor beneath the Calabrian Arc (with volcanism on the Aeolian Islands as one consequence), others postulate a hot spot beneath Etna, thus explaining its high lava production and fluid mafic magmas.
Still another hypothesis sees Etna in a complex rifting environment, and among the few things which are quite well understood is the fact that the volcano lies at the intersection of several major regional fault systems.
Whatever of this is true, it is evident that Etna lies in a very complex geodynamic environment hardly comparable to any other region on Earth.
There is some evidence that Etna is but the most recent manifestation of volcanism fed from a very long-lived mantle source, having caused numerous earlier phases of mafic volcanism in the Monti Iblei, SE Sicily, from the late Triassic to the early Pleistocene. All l' year it is possible to carry out several tipe of excursions from Nicolosi or from Linguaglossa, while in the winter season it is possible to have use of of the ski park presents is on Etna north that Etna south

The Circumetnea railway society was founded in 1865. Its main purpose was to convey to Riposto the Agricultural products of its rich hinterland. Nowadays its operation is confined to the passengers transportation. It offers a delightful journey around the mount Etna, going through many towns: Riposto, Giarre, Linguaglossa, Solicchiata, Moio, Randazzo, Maletto, Bronte, Biancavilla, Licodia, Paternò, Belpasso, Misterbianco, Catania.

Alcantara Canyon

Gole Alcantara --- Gole Alcantara

The spectacular Alcantara cayon is not the result of the slow wearing away and removal of land surface by water in the course of an erosion process lasted thousands of years. Scientists think that the river bed of Alcantara originated by a terrible sussultatory earthquake which cracked an old lava plain. This theory is supported by the particular angular shape of the rocks whose bstructure looks like "wooden heaps" or "organ pipes". The most famous and spectacular among Alcantara gorges is situated in Motta Camastra territory, in a place called Fondaco Motta. This canyon is over 6 kilometres long and it can be easily explored for about 5 kilometres. Originated by a basaltic lava flow (poor in silicon and rich in iron, magnesium and calcium) the structure of the rock is particulary interesting because when the lava flow got cold and solidified it resulted into a prismatic pentagonal and exagonal shape recaling the molecular structure of its material.

PANTALICA --- PANTALICA

Rich in watercourses and in marshes, Siracusa takes its name from the old Sicilian word "Syraca" meaning "plenty of water". Ancient Greek people called it "Pentapoli", because it was one of the biggest Mediterranean cities made up of five historical hamlets: Ortigia, Acradina, Neàpoli, Tiche and Epipoli. The town has a mainland and an insular part, the small Ortigia island. Foto Santuario Siracusa (Sicilia)
Ortigia island, in the north, and Plemmirio promontory, in the south, form a large inlet with an harbour called "Porto Grande". The town is crossed by Ciane and Anapo rivers and by Mammaiàbica canal which flow into Porto Grande inlet producing marshes historically called "Pantanelli". In the north (Contrada Tarpia) Siracusa bordes on Priolo Gargallo and Città Giardino, hamlet of Melilli. In the west (Belvedere with its panoramic view) it borders on Solarino, Floridia, Palazzolo Acreide, Noto and Canicattini Bagni. In the south (Cassibile and Fontane Bianche) on Noto and Avola.
